I know I'm probably a late comer on this one (that's what she said), but I'm too jacked to care.
All day, I've been waltzing around London, Ontario with wearing my big headphones and BUMPING an assortment of songs by Apollo Ghosts. If you're also a little behind on your Canadian alternative/independent music awareness, I suggest you spend the rest of the evening/day tomorrow doing the same thing.
Hailing from Vancouver, Apollo Ghosts play a kind of highly enthusiastic, sunbathed rock music. Some of their songs remind me of the Kinks, others of the bright side of Belle and Sebastian. But let it be known, this band needs no influence-based analysis to justify being sought out.
Just take my situation today, for example. At around noon, I slipped into a slight emotional funk, wherein I felt lazy and morose. As a remedy, I thought I'd try listening to some nice music. At the top of my iPod's library – ordered alphabetically – was Apollo Ghosts. I threw on "Coka-Cola Admen." The music smilingly guided me into an afternoon full of energy and enthusiasm.
They've recently released a follow-up EP – called Cedar Street EP – to their much-discussed second full-length Mount Benson. Get your mitts on them here.
Apollo Ghosts are an act worth listening to, if only for their ability to turn your day around with their energy and charm.
